Rep. Doris Matsui to Give Major Address on Federal Priorities, Local Impact of Economic Recovery Package

SACRAMENTO, CA – Congresswoman Doris O. Matsui (D-Sacramento) will address a crowd of students, faculty and community members at the Sacramento State Alumni Center on Friday, November 13, 2009 at 10:00am to discuss a variety of federal issues, including the local impact of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which is making the largest alternative energy investments in our nation’s history, and helping to propel Sacramento as a clean-tech capital.

“We can ensure that America is on the path to economic recovery by bolstering the growth of new jobs right here in Sacramento,” said Matsui.  “The federal government stands ready and committed to supporting local businesses in our region that can produce clean, reliable energy alternatives to traditional sources, such as foreign oil, and to promote energy efficiency.  Sacramento is ready to be a leader in the research, development, and implementation of clean tech, and I look forward to discussing my federal priorities, and provide an update about how the stimulus package is helping to put our community on the road toward a clean-energy future.”

Following Congresswoman Matsui’s remarks, Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) General Manager John DiStasio will present an overview of the $127 million Smart Grid federal grant awarded through the stimulus package to SMUD, Sacramento State, and their partners to develop and implement clean energy and green technologies throughout the Sacramento community.  The grant is the largest of its kind awarded to any California recipient.
