Washington, DC – Congresswoman Doris O. Matsui (CA-05) applauded the opening of Sacramento’s new Regional Homeland Security and Training Center.  With more than 15,000 square feet of classroom space this facility includes training areas, firing ranges and a tactical village, all at McClellan Business Park in Sacramento.  Additionally, because it will house law enforcement at all levels – federal, state, and local – it will improve intelligence information sharing among the agencies.

“With the opening of this state-of-the-art multi-discipline and all-hazards training facility, Sacramento’s homeland security effort took a momentous step forward,” stated Congresswoman Matsui.  “Sacramento’s law enforcement officials and first responders are already some of the best in the nation and this center means they will have even better training and our community will be better prepared should an emergency arise.”

The Regional Homeland Security and Training Center was built using funds Sacramento received from the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) Grant – a federal homeland security grant program – as well as state and local funds. Sacramento has received over $21 million from the UASI grant in the previous three years.

“This Center also demonstrates the region’s wise use of UASI grant dollars.  In doing so, they show why Sacramento’s funding has increased over the past three years.  I congratulate everyone who worked tirelessly to make the idea of this center a reality.”
