Washington, DC – Congresswoman Doris O. Matsui (CA-5) issued the following statement in support of H. Res. 921, which condemns the recent attacks against Israel, holds terrorists and their state-sponsors accountable for such attacks and supports Israel’s right to defend itself.
“I am pleased to vote in support of House Resolution 921 and demonstrate my continued support of Israel as they face these unprovoked attacks by Hezbollah and Hamas.  Israel has a right to defend themselves against the continued rocket attacks directed at its citizens by militant extremists, and a duty to take steps to return home safely the kidnapped soldiers currently being held hostage.
“The recent attacks on Israel further underscore the importance of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1559.  Had Hezbollah been dismantled and foreign agents been required to leave Israel when the Security Council passed this resolution nearly two years ago, the current situation and the rising tension in Israel might have been avoided. I look forward to a renewed commitment by all nations to support steps which will free Lebanon from foreign and terrorist influence and in its place leave a true, lasting peace in the region.”
