Washington, DC – Congresswoman Doris O. Matsui (CA-5) announced that the House is set to approve $1.5 million for Sacramento area transportation and development projects for the fiscal year 2007. The funding was part of the $67.8 million in discretionary spending included in the House version of the FY ’07 Transportation, Treasury, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations Bill.
“I am pleased that Sacramento’s transportation and development projects received this funding. These projects will maintain our infrastructure that effortlessly moves people and things in and out of our region. Sacramento has always been cognizant of how it grows and through these projects we can ensure Sacramento continues to successfully grow in a way that makes sense,” stated Congresswoman Matsui.
I-5 /Cosumnes River Boulevard Extension and Interchange Project, $1 million:This project extends Cosumnes Boulevard from its current westerly terminus at Franklin Boulevard to an interchange at I-5, and then further west to an intersection with Freeport Boulevard. Additionally, the project includes a grade separation at the Union Pacific Rail Road and bike lanes and sidewalks in both directions. Sacramento Food Bank $200,000:
The SFBS, through its Food and Nutrition Program, feeds approximately 55,000 people annually in the Sacramento area. A safe, permanent facility is needed to enable this worthwhile organization to carry out its mission. A suitable site has been identified and the County of Sacramento has agreed to assist in financing the conversion of the existing facility to accommodate the needs of the SFBS. This project has the support of the regional Congressional delegation who have also included this project among their priorities.
Sacramento County Airport System – Air Traffic Tower Replacement Tower, $300,000:
These funds will be used for the Airport Master Plan Environmental Impact Statement including air traffic tower relocation. With the increasing use of the airport, the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors approved a Draft Master Plan for the Sacramento International Airport in February 2004. To ensure the project is completed on schedule, the FAA must replace the existing air traffic control tower, which was constructed in 1967 and has a number of operational, safety, and security deficiencies.
The House of Representatives is expected to approve the Transportation, Treasury, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations Bill for fiscal year 2007 today. It will also need to be voted on by the Senate, approved by both chambers and signed by the president.
